Lizi’s granolas

A while ago I was kindly sent a big parcel of granola from the lovely Lizi.

( I was expecting mini samples, so it is taking me ages to eat them!)

All the granolas are made to have a low glycemic load- from the website; The Glycaemic Load (GL) of food is the one single number which tells you how food affects your blood sugar level. It’s the Glycemic Load you need to watch if you want to keep your blood sugar stable, Everything else will fall into place after that!

The thinking is that if you eat a meal with a GL of 20g or less, it will have a small effect on blood sugar levels. So eating 3 meals a day of no more than a GL total of 20g and allowing a GL of 10g twice a day for snacks, your daily total GL will be 80g. Prof Jenny Brand-Miller from The University of Sydney, says this “low” daily glycemic load and will bring your blood sugar under control.

The good thing about a GL diet is that you can eat carbohydrates, as most nutritionists recommend, but to keep the GL low you must choose good carbs, (i.e. those with a low GI which will give you a low GL per serving).

The website has more information, plus some lovely recipes too.

Mango Macadamia

Yum! I love mango, and the granola had a lovely crunch as well as a sweet flavour. It had mango puree as well as mango pieces, and it was a really summery breakfast/ snack.

I amped up the flavour even more by serving it with fresh mango slices. So good! :)

Pink apple and cinnamon granola

I love anything with cinnamon in it, so this was a winner for me before I tasted it! I loved the little pieces of dried apple flakes in it (although I would have loved more). It would be lovely with some warm custard or sprinkled on  baked apples too.

Belgium chocolate granola

This is amazing! It might be my favourite? The granola is more chunky, with clusters of nuts and seeds, as well as a lovely intense chocolate flavour. I had this more as a dessert- delicious.

Passionfruit and pistachio granola

This was my favourite of the fruity flavours- the passion-fruit flavour came through really well (it only made up 1% of the ingredients but I suppose it is a very strong flavour) and I loved the pistachios in there for some crunch.

Original granola

Sometimes you just want something simple! This is it. The basis of all the recipes are rolled oats, rapeseed oil, coconut, treacle, frustose, plus various nuts and seeds (this one has Cashew Nuts, Pumpkin Seeds, Golden Linseeds, Sunflower Seeds,  Almonds, Roasted Hazel Nuts, Walnuts)- I loved the nutty combination.

I still have yet to try a couple of bags, but do not worry I will add them on here when I try them.

Thanks Lizi :) They were all delicious and a lovely change from the normal granola/ cereal combinations.
