Raw-ganic

I had some lovely raw-ganic body lotion, and emailed the folks to see what other veggie-friendly products they do.

They were kind enough to send me some samples; some facial cleansing wipes, some hand cream and some shower gel.

Their site is cheery and friendly- here are some of the points from their website:

  • What is absorbed through your skin matters
  • Everyday toiletries and cosmetics should be organic
  • Our products are better for you, better for the planet, and they work
  • We use organic ingredients so we don’t need synthetic perfumes
  • We prohibit Parabens
  • We banned artificial colours
  • We never have and never will test on animals
  • We are some of the cleanest people in England
  • All our products are dermatologically tested

The Frankincense and Sandalwood handcream:

The lotion smells lovely; a ligjht fragrance, and the hand cream is rich and moisturising. I was pleased to see that it is suitable for sensitive skin, as I can get bad patches of sore dry skin in the winter. It has a lovely warming smell, and the cream absorbs really well. A little also goes a long way, so although it is probably a little pricier than other handcreams, a tube would last a long time. 10/10

The Frankincense and Sandalwood Shower gel:

This is free from sls ( sodium laureth sulphate- often used as a cheap foaming agent- I am sure it has been linked to mouth ulcers when in toothpastes, and can’t be great for skin), parabens and “similar materials”. It smells gorgeous, and a small amount does indeed go a long way. The smell lingers in the bathroom afterwards :) 10/10

Aloe Vera and Green Tea facial Cleansing Wipes:

I liked that fact that these are un-frangranced, as I have pretty sensitive skin on my face, and even some products designed for sensitive skin (like the simple range) irritate it and make it sore and dry. I like to use wipes after I have been to the gym, especially if I know I won’t wash my face for a while as I like the get the sweat (sorry TMI?) off so it doesn’t sit around on my skin.

They come in a small pouch, but in fact there are 25 wipes in the packet so it would be perfect to stash in even a small bag. They smell a little like almonds, which I really like, and they are perfect for my sensitive skin. They do not leave a residue either, which other wipes often do. 10/10

Reviewing these products has really made me think about the ingredients that go into cosmetics and body products. I am quite fussy about what I eat (being veggie and also I don’t tend to buy ready meals or things that are overly processed) but except for using ecover cleaning products I do not tend to scrutinise labels like I would for food.  This is something I am much more aware of now and will pay more attention in the future. The website for these has a long list of places to buy- mostly independent health shops, and I was pleased to see Natural Health in Welwyn listed as one, so when they run out I can replace them- hooray! :)

  1. Very good article, I really find your point of view useful. I\\\’ve been tossing the same concepts around in my head for some time, and you have helped to clarify the concerns.
