Raw chocolate company

I was sent a lovely pile of goodies from the Raw Chocolate company. The Raw Chocolate Company use fairtrade, organic and unroasted cacao as the base for all their products. They make a wide range and you can check out their products here.

A selection of raw chocolate covered dried fruits.

And a selection of delicious sounding raw chocolate bars.

The Raw chocolate covered mulberries called to be first, as I have never had mulberries before. As they are dusted in cacao powder, the first taste is almost bitter. They are surprisingly chewy and quite sweet on the inside- I could not quite place the taste of the berries but they were really tasty. I also loved the packaging (I like to be able to see what things look like) and the best part- 100g would give you 10.5% RDA of iron (and some calcium, magnesium and vitamin C). Not bad for a sweetie replacement.8/10 cherries

Twilight chocolate bar

This bar has 52% raw cacao solids. The only ingredients are; cacao butter, fructose, cacao mass and carob. I shared the 44g bar, and that was plently as the flavour is rich and intense. I liked the texture too- it had a bit more bite than the really melty raw chocolates I have tried, but it still melted as you ate it. This bar was sweet (I suppose down to the fructose and carob) but delicious. I liked that on the packaging it listed the nutrition stats (per 100g, but you can work it out for the 44g bar) and it also listed the amount of iron, magnesium and calcium. 9/10 cherries

Minted chocolate bar

The ingredients are cacao mass, xylitol, cacao butter, vanilla and mint oil. One bar is 44g, and I shared it with Andy. It was lovely- the perfect amount of mint. Sometimes minty chocolate can be overpowering, but this had the right amount- it was certainly mint chocolate, but you could still taste the chocolate. The chocolate has a lovely texture too- it snaps well when you break it apart, but does melt too. Mmm. 9/10 cherries

Raw chocolate goji berries

I get very messy fingers eating these as they are dusted generously in cacao powder! The ingredients are goji berries, raw chocolate (cacao mass, coconut palm sugars, cacao butter) and cacao powder. The 100g bag lasts for ages, as the berries are so tiny! I liked the chewiness of the berries- the sweetness also went well with the slightly bitter cacao powder. I have only had goji berries a couple of times, and never been that impressed (I could not really tell them apart from raisins), but these ones are scrummy. They are lovely sprinkled onto yoghurt and I bet great on porridge. I preferred these to the mullberries (more chewy and less crunch) so 9/10 cherries.

Pitch Dark chocolate (69% raw cacao solids)

Made of cacao mass, cacao butter, coconut palm sugar, carob, vanilla.

This tastes like lovely dark chocolate- slightly bitter, but still sweet enough for me (to give you an idea, I like 73% generally, but 80% is too much). Again a lovely texture which melted as you ate it. 8/10 cherries

Lavish Dark with Orange 70% raw cacao solids

The chocolate is quite rich, so half a bar at a time is enough. The orange flavour was subtle, but there. I did think this bar had a bit of a sweet, almost chemically aftertaste, possibly from the xylitol (ingredients are cacao mass, xylitol, cacao butter, vanilla, orange oil), but it tasted very similar to “normal” dark chocolate orange and I still liked it. 8/10 cherries

Loaded Plain Dark 70% raw cacao solids

For some reason I thought this had cacao nibs in it, but it is plain chocolate (cacao mass, xylitol, cacao butter, vanilla, lecithin). It was lovely and dark, with a texture that snapped when you broke the bar, and then melted in the mouth. It still had a slightly strange aftertaste, like the orange bar, but it was not unpleasant or anything, I just could not quite place it. 8/10 cherries

Vanofffe with vanilla and lucuma

I thought at first this would be like white chocolate, but really it is like milk chocolate. Made with cacao butter, carob, lucuma and vanilla, it had a sort of toffee like taste, almost like angel delight (anyone else used to like that?). It was very sweet (impressive as it had no sugar or anything, I think the lucuma is sweet), but really tasty and a fab raw version of milk chocolate. 9/10 cherries

Raw chocolate covered raisins

These are amazing! I love love love them! I love chocolate covered raisins anyway, and these (I saved them ’til last hoping they were the best) are so fantastic. The raisins are moist and chewy and sweet, and covered in raw chocolate and dusted with cacao powder. I love them! Love them! Have I said I love them? 10/10 cherries. Love them!

Thanks Raw Chocolate Company- I loved trying the products and I will certainly be stocking up on the raw chocolate covered raisins when I next visit the health food shop :)
