Raw Health/ Windmill Organics

I have been trying to up the omega 3 content in my diet, and I know it is found in flaxseeds (also called linseeds- something thay confused me for a long time before I realised they were one and the same).

Anyway, I tried sprinkling them on things, but wasn’t that keen. I have tried the linwoods ground products, and they are nice in yoghurt, but I was after a seedy bar that contained mostly flaxseeds and not so many other seeds. I came across the Raw Health brand, and the kind people offered to send me some products to sample. They also sent me some vegetarian sweets (as they knew I was a veggie)- how kind!

First on the menu were the Zingy Lemon and Ginger Rolls. They are made of flax seeds, agave nectar, sunflower seeds, dates, ground ginger and lemon zest. Lovely simple ingredients :) They are vegan, gluten free and also raw (not heated about 42 degrees) so cater for lots of specialist diets.

They are tasty, and crunchy, and the lemon flavour came through really nicely. The ginger was quite subtle- I would have liked it a little stronger, but I am a ginger fan! Each 80g bag has 5 rolls in it (so around 16g per roll) and one is lovely for a snack alongside some fruit.

8/10 cherries (would be higher if the ginger flavour was stronger)

The Tangy Apple and Cinnamon Rolls

The ingredients are flax seeds, apples, agave nectar, raisins, sunflower seeds and cinnamon. (Again vegan, gluten free, raw). Again it is an 80g bag with 5 rolls in it.

The flavour in these really packs a punch! A really strong apple flavour, and a nice hint of cinnamon (again, could be stronger- I just love these spices). It really did have the apple and cinnamon flavour to perfection.

You can un-roll them and make a mess on your plate like so;

(I had eaten some of it already at this point!)

10/10 cherries for taste :)

I tried the Organic Pineapple Chews by Biona;

The ingredients are glucose syrup, cane sugar, corn starch, citrid acid, pineapple flavour and apple pectin, so not the most wholesome food. But they are a gelatin-free zone, and tasted very fresh.

7/10 cherries (as they are tasty, but could have contained more fruit juice I suppose)

The licorice bears;

Ingredients; Corn syrup, corn starch, agaves syrup, natural licorice flavour (licorice root extract, aniseed oil,) malt extract, barley malt extract, carnauba wax. These tasted very strong, and were very chewy and sticky (unlike the panda licorice that you may be familliar with). Very more-ish

8/10 (again not the healthiest snack but lovely for a treat)

Spicy Buckwheat Bites

The ingredients are Hulled and germinated buckwheat, dates, sunflower seeds, raisins, pumpkin seeds, dessicated coconut, hulled sesame seeds, flax seeds, cocoa powder, cinnamon, nutmeg. Just reading the list makes my mouth water- I am a fan of all those spices. They are again vegan, gluten free and raw. You get loads of little mini “crackers” in the 100g box- each one was around 8g so about 45 calories I think. They are super high in fibre (14g per 100g) plus 16g protein per 100g.

The coconut flavour really comes through, and they have little chocolate chip type things in them too. The spices are not too strong in flavour, and I would have preferred more spices. They are tasty, but quite dry. I prefer the rolls as they are more moist. These I suppose would make a nice crunchy topping for some yoghurt or ice cream or something like that.

6/10 cherries

Apricot and Almond bar

The ingredients are dates, apricots, brazil nuts, almonds and apples- it is vegan and gluten free. The 40g bar has 162 cals, 6.8g protein, 9.2g fat (all good from the nuts), 3.6g fibre and 19.6g carbs- all packed into one tasty bar. The texture is more moist than the normal oat nakd bars, and I loved the fact that you got massive chunks of brazil nuts in the bar- it was not pureed too smooth.

You can kind of see in the picture. The bar was very sweet, due to the apricots I suppose, and it was almost a little too sweet (but I did like it).

8/10 cherries

Sprouted Sunseeds Provencale

These are more like sprinkles for a savoury salad, as they are loose in the pack (not made into crackers or rolls or anything).

The ingredients; sprouted sunflower seeds, sundried tomatoes, tamari sauce, herbs.

These are lovely sprinkled on a salad. They add a nice crunchy texture- if you like croutons or seeds or anything like that, then give these a go. 8/10 cherries

I loved trying the Raw health/ Windmill Organics products- the seed rolls were a brilliant delicious surprise, and I was very pleased to see them on sale in my local Waitrose. I was really impressed with the quality of ingredients, especially the flax seed products as I think most people could do with more omega 3 in their diets.

Thanks :)
